Over this summer I have spent the majority of my time at this Wildlife rehabilitation facility. Here I learned the fundamentals of raising and caring for orphaned and injured mammals and reptiles. These animals included raccoons, skunk, fox, opossum, black bears, turtles, frogs, rabbits, woodchucks, and other native New Jersey species. Since it was baby season we received a plethora of orphans. From bottle feeding, to slowly giving the infants solid foods, to moving them to bigger and bigger cages until they were ready to be released, I watched them grow into strong and healthy creatures. I also observed the injured patients recover. So far we have had over 600 intakes and many of them have been released already. Although at times the refuge was filled to capacity room was made for every single animal admitted. There are also several permanent unreleasable residents which must be tended to daily. These include a Canadian Lynx, African Tortoise, domesticated raccoon, squirrel, and several turtles.

A tremendous amount of time, effort, and resources goes into rehabiliating these wild animals. Many of the patients arrived due to human conflict or interference. These wounded and orphaned creatures arrive weak and vulnerable and  are reliant on human nurturing so that they may be able to live free in the wild once again. Any contribution would be greatly appreciated and will help with the rehabilitation of the wild ones.

Supplies are limited and we rely mainly on volunteers and donors for support. Every donation helps and makes a huge difference to the animals being cared for. Here are just a few examples of what your donation could provide.

$5: feeds a turtle for a week with fruits, vegetables, worms, and leafy greens
$10: buys a feeding tube for infants and critically impaired adult animals
$15: buys syringes for 100 medical treatments
$25: feeds a litter of opossums for a week with fruits, vegetables, dry foods, and meats
$50: buys a large soft-sided cage as housing for bats learning to fly
$75: feeds a litter of raccoons for a week with assorted fruits, vegetables, dry food, meats, and nuts.
$100: buys a two week supply of milk formula for all the infant mammals.
$250: covers the medical and housing needs for the bear cubs for a month
$500: buys an incubator that tiny infants live in until they are big enough to maintain their body temperature on their own
$1000: can buy new enclosures for our educational animals

By the way: Woodlands Wildlife Refuge is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity. Your generous donation is tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law.
