Johnson Lake Fireworks “Light up the Lake”

For 24 years Johnson Lake has hosted one of the most spectacular Fourth of July fireworks shows in the state. The 25th annual "Light up the Lake" fireworks show is scheduled for Saturday, July 5th, 2025 at 10 p.m. A rain date of Sunday, July 6th at 10 p.m. is set in case of bad weather. 

Nebraska Game & Parks estimates more than 60,000 people enjoy "Light up the Lake" annually. The effort to put on such a spectacular display does not happen without the help of many volunteers. A special “Thank You” to all of those who volunteer their time and services, especially the Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District for the use of their land, the Elwood Fire Department for providing emergency services if needed, and the Dawson & Gosper County Sheriff Departments, and the Nebraska State Patrol for assisting in traffic control and closing down the road during the show.
